# Painting

Painting: Survey / Measurement and Quantity takeoff and installation plan

*Get all your areas and linear measurements in minutes — walls, reveals, skirting boards — without measuring by hand.*

📱 This article covers the features available on the Essentiel plan.

## The Scan

{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}
**With an iPhone Pro (12 or later) or an iPad Pro (2020 or later), carry out a 98% accurate Survey / Measurement in minutes.**

<p align="center"><a href="/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/perform-a-scan.md#consulter-ici-la-liste-exhaustive-des-appareils-compatibles" class="button secondary">All compatible models</a></p>

1. Open Visuary and tap **New Scan**&#x20;
2. Move your device around the space following the on-screen instructions. Scan a maximum of 40 m² before moving on to the next Zone.
3. Tap the Camera icon to photograph any issues (cracks, peeling, special surfaces, etc.) — the photo will be automatically located on the plan
4. Press and hold to **leave an audio comment** on **areas of concern and work to be planned**
5. Complete your Scan to access the dimensions and Quantity takeoff from the Survey / Measurement

{% hint style="warning" icon="lightbulb" %}
Examples of useful comments: "Plan to apply glass-fibre wallpaper on this wall" "Red painted wall" "Protect parquet flooring"
{% endhint %}
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

{% hint style="success" %}
Once your Scan is complete, **rename your project** to find it more easily by clicking the 3 dots at the top right of the app or directly on the project name in the browser.
{% endhint %}

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Successful Scan (accuracy, best practices, tips)</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/perform-a-scan.md#reussir-sa-capture">Perform a Scan</a></td></tr><tr><td>How do I rename my project?</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/data/files.md#visualiser-lensemble-des-informations-de-votre-projet">Files</a></td></tr><tr><td>Site photos and comments</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/perform-a-scan.md#enrichir-sa-capture">Perform a Scan</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Retrieve areas

Once the Scan is complete, find your project in Visuary (visuary.app) from your computer or tablet — the plan is automatically synced.

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Can't find your Scan?</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/solve-a-scan-issue.md#je-ne-retrouve-pas-ma-capture">Solve a Scan issue</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FtOa2POP6GKvbnn7kHlxX%2Fpeinture_metre.mp4?alt=media&token=a91f4145-b659-4274-a7dc-9638509e7df6>" %}

Once the project is open:

1. <mark style="background-color:yellow;">Switch to Scan view — click a wall to view its individual area</mark>, uncheck openings to obtain the net area to be painted
2. <mark style="background-color:yellow;">Open Existing floor plan → Quantity takeoff to find, by room and overall:</mark>
   * Areas to be painted (walls excluding openings) in m²
   * Ceiling area in m²
   * Linear meter of reveals in linear meters
   * Linear meter of skirting boards in linear meters
3. Rename your rooms directly from the plan as needed; the Quantity takeoff updates automatically

{% hint style="warning" icon="user-question" %}
💡 The Quantity takeoff updates automatically whenever the plan is modified.
{% endhint %}

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Quantity takeoff: all information and Export</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/data/the-quantity-takeoff.md#elements-visibles-dans-le-metre">The quantity takeoff</a></td></tr><tr><td>Rename a room and change its numbering</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/floor-plan/the-rooms.md#modifier-lappellation-dune-piece">The rooms</a></td></tr><tr><td>The 3D Scan view</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/the-capture-view.md">The Capture view</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Apply colours and refine the Quantity takeoff

On the Renovation floor plan, apply your colours to visualise the result and obtain a detailed Quantity takeoff by shade.

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2Fsk2MqF5NcUWRKgAi0Xlp%2Fpeinture_addpaint.mp4?alt=media&token=c8c2f053-49bb-4be3-859d-a7e2daec2e32>" %}

1. Check the comments on the Existing floor plan, then switch to the Renovation floor plan
2. Switch to 3D view and select the Coverings > Walls tool
3. Choose one of the available paint ranges, or Coloured paint
4. Click "see more" in the paint menu, then click your colour choice
5. Apply it to a wall section, an entire room, or the entire plan
6. Find the area of each paint applied to the plan in the Quantity takeoff

{% hint style="info" %}
Adding Finish / Covering to skirting boards works differently; you can choose to apply the floor Finish / Covering, wall Finish / Covering, or the default Finish / Covering:&#x20;

## Create a Reference plan

From the 2D plan, annotate Zones directly to prepare the Installation or send instructions to your team or supplier. Review your comment Location pins and add key points of concern as text annotations so they can be read directly on the plan.

{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FQY0jwQeHduJUYcRrCXAe%2Fplan_rep_peinture.mp4?alt=media&token=14472b1d-464c-4c25-9666-3e5b024636a5>" %}

1. Review your comments from the Location pins on the plan
2. Enable the "Annotations" Layer by clicking the eye icon at the bottom right of the screen
3. Click the "Annotations" button and select the "[Polyline](/guide-visuary-en/data/annotations.md#polyligne)" tool: draw lines on the wall plans where you want to add paint.\
   If needed, enable the "Show segment lengths" option
4. Complete with the "[Text box](/guide-visuary-en/data/annotations.md#les-annotations-textes)" tool for greater precision — "Red paint", "Glass-fibre wallpaper" and "Protect the parquet flooring"
5. You can also add dimensions visible from the Annotations tool — they will appear in the PDF if the **Measurement lines** Layer is enabled.
6. Go to the PDF report tab, unlock your 2D plan page, and select the visible Layers and plan version.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://4038224095-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FvSOEJMszn6SGXOiZXA6l%2Fplan_rep_peinture.png?alt=media&amp;token=c210ad45-b1b7-42c8-9ef4-3c5c1a54a576" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" icon="lightbulb" %}
&#x20;The PDF report also contains a comments page with the plan and details of each Location pin.
{% endhint %}

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Edit PDF report pages </td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/sharing-and-export/pdf-report.md">PDF report</a></td></tr><tr><td>Choose view modes</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/visualization/view-modes.md#les-differents-modes-de-vue">View modes</a></td></tr><tr><td>Select visible Layers</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/visualization/view-modes.md#le-role-des-calques">View modes</a></td></tr><tr><td>Add visible dimensions to the plan</td><td><a href="/guide-visuary-en/data/annotations.md#ligne-de-cotation">Annotations</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.visuary.com/guide-visuary-en/according-to-your-profession/painting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
