# Perform a Scan

*Scan a space in just a few minutes with your iPhone or iPad Pro:* *the plan is generated automatically.*

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
For your first scan, do it in a quiet environment at home, so you can get comfortable with the tool before using it on a job site.
{% endhint %}

<h3 align="center">Prerequisites</h3>

#### Have a compatible device

The Scan is only available on iPhone Pro 12 (or newer Pro models) and on iPad Pro 2020 (or newer Pro models).&#x20;

**To check whether your device is compatible:**\
\
Open the app **Settings** on your device > **Tap your Profile** at the top of the screen > **Scroll down to view the Devices section** : there you will find the text "This device: {exact device model}".
{% endhint %}

#### Download the Visuary app

Before doing a scan, make sure you have **downloaded the Visuary app from the App Store**. \
\
**The Scan feature is available exclusively in this app**. \
If you access Visuary through a web browser, it will not be available.

***

<p align="center"></p>

<h3 align="center">Best practices</h3>

* Make sure the space is well lit: enable the built-in flash in the app if needed (lightbulb icon at top right)
* Scan room by room or in zones of about 40 m²; for larger spaces, divide them into several zones
* Start each new zone at the exact place where you finished the previous one
* Move slowly and smoothly, without pausing: leaving the app or stopping mid-scan can cause geolocation errors and force you to start over
* Go over important elements several times to improve accuracy (walls, openings, doors, edges)
* For sloping ceilings, go over the edge again so the slope appears correctly in the 3D model

Under good conditions and by following these practices, the scan accuracy rate is around 98%.

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
If the flash or camera buttons do not appear, check that your app is up to date in the App Store.
{% endhint %}

<h3 align="center">Review and finalize</h3>

**Once a Zone is complete, take time to review it** before moving on to the next one. This is the step where you can correct any errors without having to start over.

#### Review the 3D model of the Zone

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2F7TUV35xZzu2PFVyXxWoe%2Fcheck3D_V1.mp4?alt=media&token=1d457f35-d881-4c84-abf1-f598840cdb60>" %}
Review the 3D model of a Zone
{% endembed %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
Here is the procedure to make sure the Scan reflects the existing site correctly:&#x20;

1. On the Zone management page, click one of the Zones to **display its 3D model**.&#x20;
2. Take time to **review the model** 3D by rotating it and zooming in; make sure all important elements have been scanned (walls, openings, equipment, etc.).

{% hint style="info" %}
If you notice that some elements are missing, **uncheck the relevant Zone** from the Zone management page, then click "Add a Zone to the Scan" in order to **scan the space again**.
{% endhint %}
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

#### Correct a comment

<h3 align="center">Scan floors</h3>

#### If you are connected to the internet:&#x20;

If the Dwelling / Housing unit has several Floor levels, we recommend scanning them one Floor level at a time.&#x20;

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FtzWxmAhrn826VUORIhbg%2Fajt_etage.mp4?alt=media&token=e4341a62-1f85-4481-9f90-72cacb2be480>" %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
To Scan a floor level:&#x20;

* **Start with a Scan of the ground floor**, Scan it in as many areas as necessary. Once the ground floor is finished, tap "Finalize scan" then "Save and continue": you will arrive **on your Existing floor plan**
* Press the button **"Ground floor"** at the top of the screen
* Select **"Add a floor"**
* Then **"Capture a Floor level"** and finally **"New scan"**
* Capture R1 by following all the recommendations above, and repeat the operation for each additional Floor level.
  {% endcolumn %}
  {% endcolumns %}

#### If you are not connected to the internet:

If the Dwelling / Housing unit has multiple Floor levels but you are not connected to the internet, we recommend capturing the entire Dwelling / Housing unit and manually assigning a Floor level to each Zone.

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FM4CZ9r8a1HSQA5fHwEsY%2Fajt_etage_manuel.mp4?alt=media&token=e26a5291-21b3-4ae9-98c8-eb67e16dfefd>" %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
To capture a Dwelling / Housing unit over multiple floors:&#x20;

* Start by capturing the ground floor, one Zone at a time.
* Once finished, go upstairs to capture R1, one Zone at a time.&#x20;

{% hint style="warning" %}
We recommend **not capturing the stairs** to avoid display issues later on.
{% endhint %}

* Once the entire Dwelling / Housing unit has been scanned, from the Zone management page, **keep your finger pressed on a Zone to assign it a floor.**

Repeat the operation for each of the Zones, then click the "Finalize scan" button, then "Save and import".
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

***

<p align="center"></p>

<h3 align="center">Scan limits</h3>

Some elements are not yet supported during a Scan:&#x20;

* **Rounded walls:** They are not yet scanned correctly, this feature will be added later.
* **Half-floors** : If a room is raised above another, the height difference will not be taken into account. Treat them as separate floors.
* **Some items** such as shower trays, radiators, posts, etc. are not positioned automatically; photograph them during the scan so they can be placed manually on the Existing floor plan.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.visuary.com/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/perform-a-scan.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
