# Scan best practices

By following the best practices listed below, you give yourself the best chance of getting an accurate and faithful Survey / Measurement of the existing condition.

***

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
For your first scan, we recommend **doing a test in a quiet environment at home**. This will let you get comfortable with the tool before using it on a job site.
{% endhint %}

### The lighting

If the Dwelling / Housing unit in which you are carrying out the Survey / Measurement does not have enough light to allow the scan to correctly detect all the elements, we recommend that you**activate the flash on your device**. \
\
To do this:

1. Start a scan
2. **Tap the "bulb" icon at the top right of the screen**

### Scan room by room or by zones of about 40 m²

{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}

{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

For spaces over 40 m², divide them into **several zones**

To do this:

1. Start each new zone at the exact spot where you finished the previous one, to ensure the continuity of the plan.

***

### Move slowly and smoothly, without pausing

{% columns %}
{% column width="25%" %}

{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="41.66666666666666%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2F3jRrUEhKNsyVZVPihfGw%2Fdeplacement_lentV1.mp4?alt=media&token=d5c31b33-af4f-4d43-b769-ef0cb89a2897>" %}
Movements during the scan
{% endembed %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}

{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

Stay in constant motion:

1. Move **slowly and smoothly**, without pausing during the scan.
2. Avoid leaving the app or stopping mid-scan: this can cause errors in the layout of the zones and force you to restart the scan from the beginning.

***

### Go over the important elements several times to improve accuracy

{% columns %}
{% column width="25%" %}

{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="41.66666666666666%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FIh3xL9KnBdg3AHNAFOqc%2Fzone_complexeV1%20(1).mp4?alt=media&token=595f9d8d-be7e-4259-9d6d-d1fbda443581>" %}
Scan important and/or complex elements
{% endembed %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}

{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

Scan important elements such as openings:

1. For the **walls, openings and doors**, go over them again to improve the overall accuracy of the survey / measurement.
2. For the **sloping ceilings**, go over the Edge so that the slope appears correctly in the 3D model.

***

### Have a stable internet connection or activate Airplane mode

{% columns %}
{% column width="25%" %}

{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="41.66666666666666%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FqVGN9tmSFzPpxr3IF9f9%2Factiver_mode_avion.mp4?alt=media&token=9d1775d4-f768-4fa1-960d-fc76306d2c1c>" %}
Activate Airplane mode before the scan
{% endembed %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}

{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

Whether you use Wi-Fi or 5G, it is important to have a stable internet connection during the scan.

If not:

1. **Activate Airplane mode** on your device to carry out the scan offline.

{% hint style="danger" %}
To finalize and save the scan, however, you will need to reconnect to an internet network.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.visuary.com/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/scan-best-practices.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
