# Perform a scan

*Scan a space in just a few minutes with your iPhone or iPad Pro:* *the floor plan is generated automatically.*

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
For your first scan, do it in a calm environment at home, so you can get comfortable with the tool before using it on a job site.
{% endhint %}

<h3 align="center">Prerequisites</h3>

#### Have a compatible device

The Scan is only available on iPhone 12 Pro (or later Pro models) and iPad Pro 2020 (or later Pro models).&#x20;

**To check whether your device is compatible:**\
\
Open the app **Settings** on your device > **Tap your Profile** at the top of the screen > **Scroll down the page to view the Devices section** : you'll see the text "This device: {exact device model}".
{% endhint %}

#### Download the Visuary app

Before doing a scan, make sure you have **downloaded the Visuary app from the App Store**. \
\
**The Scan feature is available exclusively in this app**. \
If you access Visuary via a web browser, it won't be available.

***

<p align="center"></p>

<h3 align="center">Best practices</h3>

* Make sure the space is well lit: turn on the in-app flash if needed (lightbulb icon at top right)
* Scan room by room or in zones of about 40 m²; for larger spaces, split them into several zones
* Start each new zone at the exact spot where you finished the previous one
* Move slowly and smoothly, without pausing: leaving the app or stopping mid-scan can cause geolocation errors and force you to start over
* Go over the important elements several times to improve accuracy (walls, openings, doors, edges)
* For sloped ceilings, go over the edge again so the slope appears correctly in the 3D model

In good conditions and by following these practices, the scan accuracy rate is about 98%.

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
If the flash or camera buttons don't appear, check that your app is up to date in the App Store.
{% endhint %}

{% endhint %}
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

<h3 align="center">Enrich your scan</h3>

During the scan, you can enrich your survey / measurement with photos and voice comments. They will be automatically geolocated on the floor plan as dots.

#### Take a photo

<h3 align="center">Check and finalize</h3>

**Once a zone is finished, take the time to check it** before moving on. This is the step where you can correct any errors without having to start over.

#### Check the 3D model of the zone

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2F7TUV35xZzu2PFVyXxWoe%2Fcheck3D_V1.mp4?alt=media&token=1d457f35-d881-4c84-abf1-f598840cdb60>" %}
Check the 3D model of a zone
{% endembed %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
Here's how to make sure the scan correctly reflects the existing layout:&#x20;

1. On the zone management page, click one of the zones to **display its 3D model**.&#x20;
2. Take the time to **check the model** 3D by rotating and zooming it; make sure all important elements have been captured (walls, openings, equipment, etc.).

{% hint style="info" %}
If you notice that some elements are missing, **uncheck the relevant zone** from the zone management page, then click "Add a zone to the scan" to **scan the space again**.
{% endhint %}
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

#### Correct a comment

{% columns %}

Here's how to correct a comment taken during the scan: <br>

1. From the zone management page, click th&#x65;**"comment" icon** located at the bottom left of the zones to which comments have been added.
2. All comments for the zone will be visible here; you can edit the comments by entering text in the field provided for that purpose.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have several comments in the same zone, you can swipe left with your finger to view the comments one by one and edit them.
{% endhint %}
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

#### Finalize and save

<h3 align="center">Scan floors</h3>

#### If you're connected to the internet:&#x20;

If the dwelling / housing unit has several floor levels, we recommend doing it floor level by floor level.&#x20;

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FtzWxmAhrn826VUORIhbg%2Fajt_etage.mp4?alt=media&token=e4341a62-1f85-4481-9f90-72cacb2be480>" %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
To scan a floor level:&#x20;

* **Start by scanning the ground floor**, scan it in as many zones as necessary. Once the ground floor is finished, tap "Finalize scan" then "Save and continue": you'll arrive **on your Existing floor plan**
* Tap the button **"ground floor"** at the top of the screen
* Select **"Add a floor level"**
* Then **"Scan a floor level"** and finally **"New scan"**
* Scan the first floor (R1) by following all the recommendations above and repeat the process for each additional floor level.
  {% endcolumn %}
  {% endcolumns %}

#### If you're not connected to the internet:

If the dwelling / housing unit has several floor levels but you're not connected to the internet, we recommend scanning the entire dwelling / housing unit and manually assigning a floor level to each zone.

{% columns %}
{% column width="41.66666666666667%" %}
{% embed url="<https://files.gitbook.com/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZFcDkdPcFkKsLAju8DW3%2Fuploads%2FM4CZ9r8a1HSQA5fHwEsY%2Fajt_etage_manuel.mp4?alt=media&token=e26a5291-21b3-4ae9-98c8-eb67e16dfefd>" %}
{% endcolumn %}

{% column width="58.33333333333333%" %}
To scan a dwelling / housing unit across multiple floor levels:&#x20;

* Start by scanning the ground floor zone by zone.
* Once done, go upstairs to scan the first floor zone by zone.&#x20;

{% hint style="warning" %}
We recommend **do not scan the stairs** to avoid display issues later.
{% endhint %}

* Once the entire dwelling / housing unit has been scanned, from the zone management page, **press and hold a zone to assign it a floor level.**

Repeat the process for each zone, then click the button "Finalize scan" and then "Save and import".
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

***

<p align="center"></p>

<h3 align="center">The scan limits</h3>

Some elements are not yet supported during the scan:&#x20;

* **Rounded walls:** They are not yet captured correctly; this feature will be added later.
* **Split levels** : If one room is raised relative to another, the height difference will not be taken into account. Treat them as separate floor levels.
* **Some elements** such as shower trays, radiators, posts, etc. are not positioned automatically; photograph them during the scan to place them manually on the existing floor plan.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.visuary.com/guide-visuary-en/the-scan/perform-a-scan.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
