Create a scan
Scan a space in just a few minutes with your iPhone or iPad Pro: the plan is generated automatically.
For your first scan, do it in a quiet environment at home, so you can get comfortable with the tool before using it on a job site.
Prerequisites
Have a compatible device
The Scan is only available on iPhone Pro 12 (or newer Pro models) and on iPad Pro 2020 (or newer Pro models).
To check whether your device is compatible: Open the app Settings on your device > Tap your Profile at the top of the screen > Scroll down to view the Devices section : there you will find the text "This device: {exact device model}".
Download the Visuary app
Before doing a scan, make sure you have downloaded the Visuary app from the App Store. The Scan feature is available exclusively in this app. If you access Visuary through a web browser, it will not be available.
Best practices
Make sure the space is well lit: enable the built-in flash in the app if needed (lightbulb icon at top right)
Scan room by room or in zones of about 40 m²; for larger spaces, divide them into several zones
Start each new zone at the exact place where you finished the previous one
Move slowly and smoothly, without pausing: leaving the app or stopping mid-scan can cause geolocation errors and force you to start over
Go over important elements several times to improve accuracy (walls, openings, doors, edges)
For sloping ceilings, go over the edge again so the slope appears correctly in the 3D model
Under good conditions and by following these practices, the scan accuracy rate is around 98%.
If the flash or camera buttons do not appear, check that your app is up to date in the App Store.
The steps of the scan
Start a scan
Here’s how to do a scan:
Click the "New project"
Select "Scan the Dwelling / Housing unit"
Select "New scan"
You can then start moving slowly through the space to scan your first zone.
Add a zone to the scan
To add a zone to the scan:
On the Zone management page, click the button "Add a zone"
Make sure you are positioned in the same place where you finished the previous zone to avoid any geolocation issues.
Enhance your scan
During the scan, you can enrich your Survey / Measurement with photos and voice comments. They will be automatically geolocated on the plan as dots.\n\nYou can download your photos at any time; to learn more, click here.
Take a photo
To take a photo during the scan:
Click the "camera" located at the bottom right of the screen
The photo you take appears automatically bottom right ; click it to add text in the dedicated field.
Record a voice comment
To add automatically transcribed voice comments:
Press and hold the button "camera" to take the photo and start audio recording.
Review and finalize
Once a Zone is complete, take time to review it before moving on to the next one. This is the step where you can correct any errors without having to start over.
Review the 3D model of the Zone
Here is the procedure to make sure the Scan reflects the existing site correctly:
On the Zone management page, click one of the Zones to display its 3D model.
Take time to review the model 3D by rotating it and zooming in; make sure all important elements have been scanned (walls, openings, equipment, etc.).
Correct a comment
Here is the procedure to correct a comment taken during the Scan:
From the Zone management page, click the“comment” icon located at the bottom left of the Zones to which comments have been added.
All comments for the Zone will be visible here; you can edit the comments by entering text in the dedicated field.
Finalize and save
Here is the procedure to finalize and save your scan:
Once all your Zones have been scanned, click the button "Finalize scan"
If you have scanned sloping ceilings, check the box "Enable the import of sloping ceilings (beta)"
Click "Save and import" to retrieve the plan from your scan and access it from all your devices.
An internet connection is required to save a scan. If you do not have a connection, wait until you are connected to the internet again, then follow the steps to find your scan and save it by clicking here.
Scan floors
If you are connected to the internet:
If the Dwelling / Housing unit has several Floor levels, we recommend scanning them one Floor level at a time.
To Scan a floor level:
Start with a Scan of the ground floor, Scan it in as many areas as necessary. Once the ground floor is finished, tap "Finalize scan" then "Save and continue": you will arrive on your Existing floor plan
Press the button "Ground floor" at the top of the screen
Select "Add a floor"
Then "Capture a Floor level" and finally "New scan"
Capture R1 by following all the recommendations above, and repeat the operation for each additional Floor level.
If you are not connected to the internet:
If the Dwelling / Housing unit has multiple Floor levels but you are not connected to the internet, we recommend capturing the entire Dwelling / Housing unit and manually assigning a Floor level to each Zone.
To capture a Dwelling / Housing unit over multiple floors:
Start by capturing the ground floor, one Zone at a time.
Once finished, go upstairs to capture R1, one Zone at a time.
We recommend not capturing the stairs to avoid display issues later on.
Once the entire Dwelling / Housing unit has been scanned, from the Zone management page, keep your finger pressed on a Zone to assign it a floor.
Repeat the operation for each of the Zones, then click the "Finalize scan" button, then "Save and import".
Scan limits
Some elements are not yet supported during a Scan:
Rounded walls: They are not yet scanned correctly, this feature will be added later.
Half-floors : If a room is raised above another, the height difference will not be taken into account. Treat them as separate floors.
Some items such as shower trays, radiators, posts, etc. are not positioned automatically; photograph them during the scan so they can be placed manually on the Existing floor plan.
