# Painting

*Get all your areas and linear measurements in minutes — walls, reveals, skirting boards — without measuring by hand.*

📱 This article covers the features available on the Essentiel plan.

## The Scan

**With an iPhone Pro (12 or later) or an iPad Pro (2020 or later), carry out an accurate Survey / Measurement to 98% in minutes.**

1. Open Visuary and tap **New scan**&#x20;
2. Move your device around the space following the on-screen instructions, scan up to 40 m² before moving to the next Zone.
3. Tap the Camera icon to photograph constraints (cracks, peeling, special supports, etc.) — the photo will be automatically placed on the plan
4. Press and hold to **leave an audio comment** on the **things to watch and work to plan**
5. Finalize your Scan to access the dimensions and quantity takeoff for the Survey / Measurement

Once your Scan is complete, **rename your project** to find it more easily by clicking the 3 dots at the top right in the app or on the project name directly in the browser.

## Retrieve surfaces

Once the Scan is complete, find your project on Visuary (visuary.app) from your computer or tablet — the plan is automatically synced.

Once the project is open:

1. <mark style="background-color:yellow;">Switch to Scan view — click a wall to see its individual area</mark>, uncheck the openings to get the net paintable area
2. <mark style="background-color:yellow;">Open Existing floor plan → Quantity takeoff to find by room and overall:</mark>
   * Surfaces to paint (walls excluding openings) in m²
   * Ceiling area in m²
   * Linear meter of reveals in linear meters
   * Linear meter of skirting boards in linear meters
3. Rename your rooms directly from the plan if needed. The Quantity takeoff updates.

## Apply colors and refine the Quantity takeoff

On the Renovation floor plan, apply your colors to see the result and get a Quantity takeoff detailed by shade.

1. Check the comments on the Existing floor plan, then switch to Renovation floor plan
2. Switch to 3D view and select the Coatings > Walls tool
3. Choose one of the available paint ranges, or Coloured paint
4. Click "see more" in the paint menu, then click your colour choice
5. Apply it to a wall section, the whole room, or the whole plan
6. Retrieve from the Quantity takeoff the surface area of each paint applied to the plan

Adding Finish / Covering to skirting boards works differently; you can choose to apply the floor Finish / Covering, wall Finish / Covering, or the default Finish / Covering:&#x20;

## Create a reference plan

From the 2D plan, annotate the Zone areas directly to prepare the installation or pass instructions to your team or supplier. Review your comments from the Location pins and turn key points into text annotations so they are readable directly on the plan.

1. Review your comments from the Location pins on the plan
2. Add a text annotation on each Zone concerned — "Plan for screed", "Wall to paint" and "Protect the parquet floor"
3. Use colors to distinguish information types — red for constraints, green for installation instructions
4. You can also add dimensions visible from the Annotation tool — they will appear in the PDF report if the Layer **Measurement lines** is enabled.
5. Go to the PDF report tab, unlock your 2D plan page and select the layers and visible plan version.&#x20;
